Boost mode
If at any time you find that the provided g1-small Compute Engine instance lacks the resources you need, you can temporarily upgrade your Cloud Shell instance to an n1-standard-1 using boost mode. Boost mode increases the system RAM from 1.7 GB to 3.75 GB and increases compute power from 0.5 vCPU to 1 vCPU. It's worth noting that the default g1-small instance is also capable of temporarily reaching 1 vCPU thanks to its bursting capabilities.
Boost mode can be enabled by clicking More Settings | Boost Mode in the Cloud Shell. Doing so will immediately destroy your existing Cloud Shell virtual machine and provision a new one with the increased resources. Boost mode currently lasts for 24 hours and is considered experimental. Also, be aware that overly intense compute or network usage may result in the session being temporarily terminated due to exceeding resource limits.
